My wife drove the '98 9000 for 125Kmi, bought a 9-5 and then a 9-4X. Neither were anywhere as good all-around and she still misses it.
The daughter got the 9000 as a replacement for her 900, drove it another 25Kmi, low-speed-rear-ended someone and the insurance totaled it for the front sheet metal damage. I knew for the $2000 settlement, we could not buy her anything as good, so we bought it back from the insurance company and had it repaired.
Recently, two blocks from home, she didn't yield to the right cross street and was T-boned in the A-pillar. Not repairable, but with the RF wheel canted at a 30-degree angle, it still drove back to her house.
This time, the insurance company didn't even want to haul it away, so we bought it back for $50. The battery was worth $50. I put new brakes on it a while back, so I'll swap them over to my '95 Aero I had to give her.
Still a good running engine and AT. Is it likely the impact on the RF wheel did any damage to the AT case or bearings?
Now, I've got four sets of tires and wheels for 9000s; three Aero 3-spokes and one set of 15" multi-spokes.
I'd love to be able to put this '98 behind the garage under a tarp as a donor for the inevitable problems the '95 will experience, but alas, sooner or later, I'll have to admit the 9000 era is behind me.
Sic transit gloria.
