Late gearbox oil fill issue Posted by Porschephile951 [Email] (#2169) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Porschephile951) on Tue, 6 Dec 2016 09:06:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had an issue while swapping the transmission oil in my 1998 CSE two nights ago. I loosened the two 8mm hex bolts that the Saab oil change bulletin said, and drained the box.
My problem was when I went to fill. I used a hand pump with a plastic hose fed into the fill hole, but I just could not seem to get oil into the thing. I ended up putting the drain pan under it and just continuing to slowly pump and hope that at least half of it was getting in there. I cracked the drain bolt again just to see if at least some got in there, and some purple did come out, so at least some fluid made its way in.
I'm wondering if this is the norm? Do you just have to go very slowly to get the fluid in? I put the gearbox oil change in as a secondary task while pressure testing the intake system and swapping over to snow tires--I didn't really budget a lot of time to troubleshoot what should be a very straightforward procedure.
Any thoughts?
