I may have found what I'm looking for, but now I need to narrow it down! The EPA shows several engine numbers in use by Saab in 1990 - perhaps variations for EGR and 49-state vs. 50-state emissions:
LSA2.0V5FNA8 (2.0, 900 only, auto or manual)
LSA2.0V5FNB9 (2.0, 9000 only, auto or manual)
LSA2.0V5FNE1 (2.0, 9000 only, w/ EGR, auto or manual)
LSA2.0V5FTB5 (2.0, 900 and 9000, 900 auto, 9000 auto or manual)
LSA2.0V5FTE8 (2.0, 900 and 9000, w/ EGR, 900 auto, 9000 auto or manual)
LSA2.3V5FNC6 (2.3, 9000 only, auto or manual)
but it doesn't call out turbo vs. non and I don't think there are enough variations for the 900 - no 900 w/ EGR and a 5-speed? I owned one of those, so I'm pretty sure it existed. :)
I am going to try to attempt to smog a T5-equipped c900. I just don't know whether I should tell them it's a '94 NG900 or 9000, but then I started thinking maybe it's a 1990 9000T - it'd be OBD-exempt and distributorless; only a seriously trained eye can tell DI/APC from T5. Because it's OBD-exempt, there is no computer test. The gotcha in all of this is a c900 has a very different exhaust manifold from a NG900 or 9000 - the intake manifold is exempted for pre-1996 cars, but the exhaust isn't. My thought was that if the '90 9000T and '90 900T have the same engine family number, the parts are legally interchangeable and I don't have to argue. :)
Guess I'll go Google LSA2.0V5FTB5 for a while - it's my best hope.
