A few months back I posted a query into why I was experiencing some weird electrical issues on my '93 Aero. It had me stumped and after searching the database here, I found others with a similar problem but no responses from other members with a valid fix for it. Now I can't say my fix will solve everyone else's dilemma, but here's what I ended up finding out. Here's my follow up response to my original post that I fear will get lost in the archives here and perhaps elude anyone else searching for an answer to this previously perplexing problem. Hope it can help somebody else. Cheers, Bob
Well, the electrical glitch finally got to a point where it shocked the TCS to go into limp mode. Took the car to my local indy to shake out the TCS codes. I mentioned to him that I'd been having this weird electrical "skip" for really a little more than a year. It started as an inconveinence and progressed to a rather wooriesome issue that was occasionally shutting down my radio and sometimes making the car "skip a beat" as far as running. Oddly, when the TCS went into limp mode, the problem with the electrical gremlin stopped. My "info" panel readout of alternator output now NEVER fluctuated. I mentioned all of this to him when I came in for the TCS limp mode issue. He told me that the TCS system was very complex, and although they ARE a SAAB indy, that it is an antiquated system and his diagnostic skills on these systems was getting a bit rusty from lack of use. He hooked into the car with ISAT and kicked out some codes and went to the book, (I was hanging out in the garage with him). He was able to clear the TCS codes out, but it was showing a "Main relay" code...so we both went looking. On my '93, the relay in question is in the small fuse box with the clear lid near the false firewall. We replaced the relay and re-scanned. All codes gone. Took car for a ride...no issues. 300 miles later: NO TCS problems and MOST important to me: NO more electrical "skip". No more weird radio activity, no more jumping alternator output, no more touching the brakes or signal to watch the alternator output spike down 3+ volts..ALL electrical problems gone! If you have this issue happening in your 9000, by all means check the main relay. Apparently a lot of current runs thru that lil bugger! Oh well, just thought I'd share. Thanks to all who chimed in. Maybe this post will help somebody else like so many of the other posts on this site have helped me. Cheers! Bob
