more a/c woes Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Mon, 5 Jun 2017 07:09:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So an a/c shop told me the compressor and the a/c tube were both leaking. I swapped the compressor with one I had previously on the car and was working, and an a/c tube from another car, also known to be working at the time. I purchased a new dryer to install at the same time. So first off, the mounting bracket for the dryer didn't quite fit, so I could only get one mounting screw on. Then the a/c tube didn't quite line up (may have been a combination of the tube getting bent in storage and the dryer not being correctly mounted). I fought to try to get the tube on, and I think I probably damaged the threads, though I didn't want to take it back off to find out. I took it back to the shop, they tell me that this compressor is leaking as well. Now I'm wondering if I had a mini stroke while I was swapping the compressors, and I actually put the same one back on. I don't think that's the case, but it sure does seem weird that they'd both leak.
Anyway, he says it's leaking at the bolted seam adjacent the flywheel. Is this something that can be repaired? I have a third compressor, but it's the older, smaller one. I'm getting tired of swapping these things out, so I'm hoping to make it the last time. I guess I should replace the dryer and a/c tube with brand new, in case those threads crossed and the connection didn't seat properly. Or maybe I should just put this car out to pasture. :/
