I thought the wire on mine was OK so I blamed the charging problem coming back on a recently-installed Autozone alternator. Got a warranty swap and installed the replacement. Although the wire initially looked OK the connector broke off of it due to corrosion when I installed the 2nd alternator. (It's even quite possible the original alternator was good but with over 300,000 miles I don't feel too bad about having replaced it.)
So check that wire closely, maybe save some unnecessary wrenching.
