Hah, well, here are my numbers from autocross last year: These pressures are always vehicle and tire specific, you'll be running considerably less pressure on the street. Methodology was as you say, marking the corners of the tire with tire crayon, and watching the scrub. You want it rolling all the way around the tread, but not off the tread onto the sidewall.
Tires are Conti extreme DW in 205/55/16. DRY: 51# front and #35# rear. WET: 38#, 32#
