Battery drain problem from Fuse #1 Posted by skibumm100 [Email] (#3255) [Profile/Gallery] (more from skibumm100) on Tue, 3 Apr 2018 06:24:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My son has the 97 CSE automatic at college (in NH) and is having dead battery problems. The battery was just replaced and the alternator is charging fine. The battery will die over a day or two. He doesn't drive the car much. Last weekend I had him fully charge the battery with the negative cable disconnected so it would be fully charged. Then he checked the current draw with a meter between the negative clamp and the negative terminal and he read 374 mA with the car off. He started pulling fuses one at a time and found the current dropped to 3 mA when he pulled fuse #1 which is the ACC, the A/C and the shifter lock, according to the fuse box door. When he put the fuse back in the current didn't jump back to 374 mA and stayed at 3 mA. Is there anything in that circuit that could drain a battery with something sticking intermittently? The shifter lock is the only thing that I would think could "stick". Also, 3 mA seems like a really low draw with the fuse pulled. Has anyone had a car pull that low of a parasitic draw? I'm half way across the country from the car so I have to relay troubleshooting through him. TIA
