There are other failure modes.
Back in June on my '97 CSE the blower stopped working. It turned out the connector had heated up and and melted, damaging the speed control resistor in the process. After replacing the connector and resistor it's been working fine. (I checked it just recently and everything is still good, the connector shows no sign of distress.) I also compared current draw using an induction ammeter against our other 9000 which has a recent blower motor and it was the same. So apparently it was corrosion or some other issue at the connector that burned it up.
