Thanks for your input on this. As I said, the CV boot that is disintegrating certainly didn't last very long, and it very well might be Rein brand (might also be Lobro or GKN too) - I can't find the receipt for it.
Do the SAAB-branded CV boots appear to be any better? At this point in time, I think that we can be fairly certain that they are made by one of the other major suppliers.
When we owned an Audi (my wife's car), I was aware that there were alternative CV boots available from VW made of some more durable material for a small upcharge. By the way, as difficult as most jobs are on an Audi, changing the CV boot is incredibly easy!
