When I overhauled the AC in my '97 CSE about 7 or 8 years ago I installed a UAC brand compressor. It's a Chinese-made clone of the Sanden unit that cost about $125 brand new. I was a little hesitant but reviews online for UAC were positive, and replacing the condenser had mushroomed into practically a full AC system rebuild which was running into $$$, so my Rambler Mentality got the best of me. It has worked out well. That inexpensive UAC compressor is still working great.
It's possible UAC also makes a model to replace the Seiko compressor. It may also be possible to switch to the Sanden type if the mount is the same and you install the appropriate hose set. Maybe not a bad idea to replace AC hoses on a 25-year-old car. (Of course that line of thinking is what had me replacing everything except the evaporator on mine when it was just the condenser that actually was bad - a cascade of "do I really want to put everything back together with this old, 280,000 mile _____, why not replace it while the system is apart?" thinking.)
