Newer model years use a metal exhaust bracket, officially named the "catalytic converter stay bracket" - attaches to a stud on the top of the cat, bolts to the back of the engine. Search part number 4393450G on eeuro to see if this is what you have. Chassis hanger hooks remained after the change, maybe during the face lift.
My 90 CD used those hooks with rubber donut hangers, my 96 CSE uses the metal bracket. I seem to remember the cat being a separate, bolt-on entity in my CD, whereas it's integrated in some way in the CSE.
The bracket on my CSE snapped once and I used those hooks and some braided cable to hold the exhaust in place till the part arrived. Noisy, but functional. Nice to have the remains of an old system available for use in a pinch.
