Rebuilding clutch slave Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Mon, 15 Apr 2019 09:21:42 In Reply to: Re: '97 Aero clutch slave desperation ?!?, vtsnaab [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 11 Apr 2019 13:34:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My car is back from the transmission shop after its clutch job, which included rebuilding the clutch slave cylinder with the SAAB-branded rebuild kit. The owner/mechanic said that the top seal of the assembly was worn down, which fits since the clutch release bearing was grinding (why it went in). The clutch now operates very smoothly, gear selection much better with new coupler, etc.
My previous independent shop also rebuilt the slave cylinder on an older 9000 when I replaced the transmission on that car. They were SAAB dealer factory trained mechanics, really knew these cars, but are sadly no longer there after they sold their shop and retired. I discussed the clutch job with the new owners, they wanted to use a ProParts slave cylinder, so I knew they were not up on the reality of this.
If your 1994 car is still functional, it would be a shame to scrap it for a slave cylinder, and it would probably be a lot less money to find a used one somewhere vs. pulling the transmission on the 1994.
