Mine wasn't water pump after all Posted by adam [Email] (#344) [Profile/Gallery] (more from adam) on Mon, 02 Oct 2000 12:10:11 In Reply to: Same here...., Paul R, Mon, 02 Oct 2000 11:33:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I posted about the possibility of a faulty water pump for my overheating problem, but the water pump had been replaced about 4 months ago, just didn't check all the receipts before I posted.
My overheating turned out to be a cascade hose failure. I replaced my upper heater hose. Then my lower heater hose developed a nice hole in city traffic a month later. Two days after that one of my throttle bottle hoses started leaking. After that I've replaced just about every hose.
Since I didn't notice any coolant loss until I blew a hose, which was happening often enough that I never checked it in between the hoses blowing, I'm guesing either every hose was leaking miniscule amounts of coolant and pressure resulting in decreased cooling ability.. or the weakest hose leaked till I replaced it, then the next weakest and so on.
My car still runs a little hotter than 9 oclock but definately not as hot as before. If you haven't replaced your hoses you may want to consider it, expecially if they are noticable weak or knowingly old. Who knows maybe my head does have a problem also, just no gonna worry at the moment.
As for the temp switch, it's really just as easy to take out the thermostat and boil it, that way you KNOW that the thermostat is or isn't the issue. I'd rather KNOW that my thermostat is opening where is should then KNOW that my temp switch is or isn't reading right. Plus it's a cheaper fix.
