Headlight Switch Warm To Touch

In my 1990 9k Turbo 120k+ miles...
I find that the headlight switch get warmer the longer I drive; it never gets too hot to touch but this is worrying. This happens regardless of the position the switch is set to. Any thoughts or suggestions?
On the subject of headlights, what is/are the bulb size(s) for this model year?
Also, is it normal for the headlights to be on all of the time (while the ignition is turned on)? Even when the headlight switch is turned off? Essentially, the headlights cannot be turned off. There is no mention of daytime running lights in the owners manual so I thought I would ask.
