know what he is talking about. ZF transmissions do not have the best
reputation, but Saab transmissions, in general, are the weak link in the
drivetrain.
I have a '95 Aero auto with 79K on it. No transmission problems yet. I do
change the fluid every 10K miles. I do use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. I do
try to limit the full throttle upshifts. I will manually downshift the
transmission rather than have it downshift at full throttle. In some ways
I baby it. That said, I also have a Abbott Trionic ECU upgrade and the
motor is probably putting out close to 240-250 HP rather than the stock 200.
It will cost about $3K to R&R the transmission with a rebuilt unit. Some
people, not too many, have been able to fix theirs relatively inexpensively.
I have been thinking of installing a 5-speed when mine dies.
