throttle be depressed at least half way. At that throttle position and
the resulting engine speed the motor is producing maximum torque.
SO, the kick down results in a downshift with maximum load on the transmission.
If you manually downshift from D to 3 under light throttle and then apply
full throttle, the loads are much lower on the transmission.
You can manually downshift at almost any speed under 75 mph (120km/hr). If you are
travelling much faster, the transmission would not downshift on it's own, even
under full throttle.
