just had my compressor changed today. Here are the details.
1) Mechanic simpply opened the system, by unbolting the hoses, to the air allowing the r134 to pollute the planet. Don't really agree with that but he did it any way and so can you.
2) My reciever/dryer was replaced about 2-3 months ago and the mechanic said that there wasn't a need to replace it again. If your receiver dryer is old, then replace it.
3) after resealing the system they hooked up both sides (high and low) to a pump to evac all the air and create a vacum.
4) then they siply refilled the system, works great.
5) things to be careful of
a) if you open the system and don't completely flush it professionally, then you will have residual oil in the system. DO NOT add too much oil or maybe any oil. Too much oil will ruin the new dryer and screw up your compressor performance
Hope this helps I relieze it's more than you asked
