Turbo Idea update Posted by Keith [Email] (#1462) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Keith) on Thu, 5 Oct 2000 09:00:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A few days ago, someone had posted a message about rigging some sort of setup to be able to cut the turbo out for certain reasons. A few people mentioned disconnecting the solenoid on the radiator. On a whim, I decided to just try this. It seemed to work, much less power, although my gauge said I was getting about 1/2 boost, but it didn't feel like it. Well, when I went to hook it back up (this was around 10pm), since it was dark out, I couldn't see the engine all that well. I noticed what looked like red light shining/reflecting onto part of my engine. Upon closer inspection, it was a glowing turbo!! The exhaust side was glowing red!! That doesn't seem good at all. When I got it hooked up, I drove for another 15 minutes and checked again. It was not glowing at all with everything connected properly.
Can anyone explain this? It doesn't seem too good, but I've heard a number of people use this to limit the turbo at certain times.
