In a car with a knock detection system and a high compression ratio, there may be a slight advantage to higher octane. In your engine, although I don't know the year, detection of knocking results in retarding of the spark, and this reduces power. My '88 9kt recently lost its centrifugal advance capability on the distributor, and the peak power is decreased. I used to run 89 octane in my '87 900S for this reason, but I never noticed that it had more power, to tell you the truth.
I would imagine that a fuel additive which is combustible would give you an increase in your gas milage, proportional to the amount you add and nothing more:>) Doubtful that it could actually increase the efficiency of your engine, unless it's a cleaner and you have a very dirty engine.
I once remember an infomercial for a car wax, and they showed how great it was by aiming a laser at the side of the car they had just done with the wax, and there was no damage. Impressive, I thought. But then they never quite got around to testing a car without the product (control group). Funny how that is.
