I picked up a leather shift knob for $10 at the Saab parts tent!! The only issue I can see with glueing the knob on is, in the future, you might run into problems if it needs to be removed. Now, since it is simply held on by friction in the first place, this leads me to believe that it is NOT something that needs to be removed/replaced often. Here's what I might try:
Try putting some sort of hard rubbery glue inside the shift knob when it connects to the level (just a thin coat around the inside). Then, once it dries hard, when you put it back on, the friction will hold it again, but you will also be able to remove it later wihtout too much problem. Just a suggestion!
