Colin was having a problem with his shift knob when it was no longer being held on by friction. It seemed that the plastic inside the knob itself had worn away, becoming too larger to securely hold itself to the metal. I merely suggested that he somehow attempt to repair the inside of the knob by "building up" the material inside. I recommended some sort of hard glue. It could easily be spread on the inside of the knob, and would dry to a similar hardness as the original plastic. Then, when the knob is replaced on the shift lever, fricition would hold it there again. I believe I also suggested not directly gluing it on, in case it needed to be removed later.
This is all to avoid buying a new knob, which he priced at about $100. Sorry for any confusion!!
