Congrats - they certainly should help with the ride! I have also found that other stuff tends to "loosen up" over time and since you've invested in the shocks, you probably should also replace all the control arm bushings (8 in total, available from Saabsite or Chip Lamb, I think) and the ball joints (4) and tie rod ends (2) and then treat yourself to an alignment. Then it will truly ride "like new". Inner tie rod ends/steering rack issues/bushings need to be good too as we've discussed on this BB before, bot those are a bit more challenging in terms of parts.
