Jim, I just drove from SF to New York in a Saab a couple of weeks ago. Modern car but still got the whole Saab experience - put in a little R134A in Vegas, clear P1334 a couple of times, order a control arm/ball joint to meet me at home :-) (my son's car).
If I do that trip in a 99 I'll be sure to come by Santa Fe!
In any event, I got a nice note from the seller and he says the VIN of the '70 car is 99041876 and the '72 is 99722005781. He also says the car is from NM, so maybe it has your fingerprints on it? I did wonder if the engine bay photo is from the '70 car, but that would not explain the dash and door cards. Anyway, he is working on posting pictures/videos, so I will look forward to those for more clues. Saab being Saab, in those days I could believe that a 1970 got built with the '69 engine mount set-up. And I do think this is a 1.7L - has a black valve cover, 1.85 were blue, right? Anyway it's an interesting mystery. If I buy another 99 I want it to be a 1969!
