Shift Gear Linkage Bushing Posted by Johnson [Email] (#3237) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Johnson) on Sat, 2 Feb 2019 15:18:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This week in the -28 F temperature range my 1977 had shift linkage issues. The rubber bushing connection located in the cabin became loose, so engaging 2nd and 4th (linkage pushing towards transmission) still worked, but I could not engage 1st or 3rd (linkage pulling away from transmission). I guess the rubber contracted enough to become loose, but will not go back together (very tight fit). The Saab manual does not depict a good diagram of the system, but the rubber is housed on the section nearest the transmission, requiring the removal of the taper pin at the transmission, and the one between the heat ducts on the floor. It seems to work best to remove the pass seat and pull up the carpet and access everything inside from the pass side. The entire job would have been easier had the linkage nearest the gear shift lever housed the rubber bushing.
