Hey Gary,
Thanks for the reply! That is actually the current track I am on. Originally when I first started working on the car , weeks ago , it had the lambda valve disconnected (it does have one :) ) and some crazy timing set. I corrected the timing and reconnected the valve and reset the mixture. The CO screw was rusted in place so I replaced the arm and screw and put the distributor back. It seemed to run fine after.
This is now a few weeks later. I suspect the valve only because I now remember hearing some intermittence in the buzzing. I assumed this was normal based on thinking it acted only in closed loop, but am told it should be on all the time. Now this car has a MSS exhaust, so no o2 was fitted, maybe that is why it was unplugged in the first place, I don't know. It would fit the symptoms which are that it really feels like an on/off switch. It doesn't break up or cut out, it just feels very restricted when it acts up. Push on the gas and nothing happens, push it again and you have full power back. Will work for a few minutes or 20 and then just be gone again.
I also found a loose (old repair) terminal on the fuel pump relay, so that should be fixed now, but the issue still remains. I'm wondering if either the valve is getting stuck/burnt out or if there is actually a power or ground issue. running the valve. Any insight on troubleshooting this would be helpful!
TIA,
