Good Morning Gary,
Thank you for your reply.
Hm, why change to a Pertronix. To move away from points and condenser. Yes, I have run points in cars and motorcycles for 40 some odd years. Yes they work, and are for the most part trouble free with maintenance, but there's a reason cars went to electronic ignitions over the past few decades. The vacuum advance unit is still employed, no electronic advance curve mapped in.
The 1.7 and 1.85 Standard/Triumph engined 99's used a Delco D302. I've got that far. I know when I first got the car I was hunting down ignition parts for a 1961 Corvair. I think points and condenser, maybe the rotor. Yes, I've also looked into TR7s as a source. I called Pertronix and was asked which version of the D302 my car had. So when time allows I'll pull the distributor, and see if I can find more identifying numbers.
You are right the 69 does have some interesting single year features. Things Saab quickly corrected for the 71 model year. It is a fun car to drive, but definitely not a car as it sits for spirited driving. Great for running around town.
Thanks again.
Tom
