I can attest to the fact that 1968 was the first year. I had chassis number 6334 which was one of the 10,000 or so that were designated for a select group (dealers, etc.) for advance exposure, etc.. I was stationed at Ramstein AB, Germany at the time and was driving a 1967 96-V4. Me and a friend got sister cars from Karl Johnen in Keiserslautern. They ordered US headlights, headrests and side clearance markers and gave us a letter from Saab that stated that the cars were US certified. Four headgaskets and a major head rework plus mucho clutch cylinders got us to nearly 100,000 miles before I got a new 74 99.
