I use a dwell meter....correct setting on the meter is 50 degrees plus or minus 2.....I bought a Snap-on unit many years ago for cheap just to set the points.....when adjusting or cranking you need to remove the fuel pump fuse to avoid flooding the engine....setting it this way can be a pain sometimes as you move the points a tad, you may be way off. The last set I did(on the 73) I put the new points in and the car started...I checked them later and they were right on 50 degrees.....what a stroke of luck...:)
