Hey Bob... first, try (if you haven't already) searching this and the sonett BB for your keywords...
Here are a few tips anyway:
1. before one starts slapping on "instant go-fast stuff", one must ensure that one's engine is either freshly or recently rebuilt. (think overall picture). Remember the most recently imported V4 is a 1974 Sonett (so we're looking at engines that are already 35+ years old... with who-knows-how-many-miles on them)
2. If your engine is ok, (stuff like the bottom end- main / rod / balance shaft bearings / pistons rings and top end- valve train / seals etc. etc.) ensure the ignition system is also in top notch shape. Rebuilt distributors are available from any of the common VSAAB private selling folks ( Chip Lamb, Jack Lawrence, Jack Aschraft, and others) also from A-1 Cardone. Kingsborne plug wires / NGK spark plugs / Bosch cap and rotor / Bosch blue coil / pertronix (replaces points and condenser)...
3. You have a couple options for the manifold:
A) keep your original 1bbl manifold and get a Weber 34ICH carb (manual choke). I have this on my '71 Sonett III. it's a smooth carb and adds some power.
B) Contact Jack Lawrence of Motorsport Services (MSS) in Jamestown, New York and ask about the single barrel 43mm carb (manual choke) & Manifold setup. This is essentially a 1bbl manifold he's modified to accept a 1960's era 43mm (rochester?) carb
C) As for the 2bbl setup... you'll need a Ford/SAAB 2bbl manifold. These can be had from Fleabay occassionally, or check with one of the above mentioned VSAAB suppliers. There is an intermediate plate needed for your 96 (the 95 also) as these use the brake booster. pretty much any variant of a 2bbl weber carb may be used, but I personally have the Weber DGV5A carb on my '68 Sonett V4. Most of these are 32/36 or thereabouts. some have manual chokes, some have water chokes and some have electric chokes.
That's about it for induction choices...
You're right about the breathing part also. Basically you have the info. An MSS exhaust. It's a Y-type extractor exhaust. There are options for 1 glass pack or 2. also a tail pipe muffler... depending on your desired audio level. ;-)
Good Luck!
