Pull it as one unit. Much easier to unbolt the transmission from the engine out of the car.
Do you have a Haynes or Saab manual that shows you how to jack up one side of the car,
unbolt the suspension arm so you can pull one CV joint out and then shift the engine to that side to get the other CV joint loose?
