Excellent advice from Tim on the fan (and flasher too). I've found the same thing- they get dry after, you know, 40 or 50 years! A little lube will go a long way to free things up and get the current draw back to normal.
If it turns out your fan motor is shot, I could probably come up with a spare one for you if you don't want to pay to have yours rebuilt.
