If you look at the base of the shift lever, right where it goes into the steering column, there's a big chrome nut. SOMETIMES, the nut loosens up, making shifting difficult- and it comes and goes. There's a little allen head screw on the back that is meant to be a stop and that falls out and the big nut gets loose. I've had that happen on a couple of VSaabs over the years and it always scares me- crap! the trans is going south! No- wait- it's just that loose nut. Whew!
