Yes, get a good one!
A few years ago, I finally bought a heavy duty one and it works great. I got it off eBay and it cost nearly $300.
I just checked eBay and the one I got looks EXACTLY like the one in this link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Interchangable-Fork-Strut-Coil-Spring-Compressor-Valve-Clamp-Extractor-Tool-Set-/282396086522?epid=677735117&hash=item41c01e50fa:g:sewAAOSwCU1YyJtO
It has the same three sets of clamps for different diameter springs in the same colors and the same red plastic box. It's now $80, which if it's the same one, is a GREAT deal. I've used mine to take off front springs at least a half a dozen times. I don't think twice about it anymore, where I used to shiver and shake and grit my teeth and close my eyes and pray that the stupid spring wouldn't pop out of the junk compressor I had and take my head off.
