Hi gang, I'm starting a new thread because the old one is so far down,
is this OK? Thanks to all respondents. Jim came through with the detail
on converting the radiator to a wider 99 model core that I was hazy on,
specifically that a pre-77 core will fit the existing tanks. I think my
first step is going to be an oil cooler, to fit the area between the
R headlight bucket and the stock radiator, with the cooler adaptor that
sandwiches between the filter and the block. This is based on ease & expense compared to retrofitting the radiator; the principle that it doesn't matter whether you remove heat from the water or from the oil,
as long as you get more heat out of the engine it will be cooler; the
fact that oil temp is running a little hotter than I prefer (I have a temp
gauge with sensor in the oil pan); & my performance parts supplier's
recommendation of a racing-style oil cooler in a size that fits the space
and looks like a very well-designed and substantial unit that may well
transfer as much heat as the expanded radiator. Cost of the unit is in the $100 neighborhood. Sorry I don't have the
identity of this unit at the moment but will post it later. I hope to
get this set up before hot weather ends & will post the results. K
