Okay, my September C&D turned up in the mail today and, yes, Phillips' story IS hilarious.
On the other hand, following along carefully, I find that the long-suffering 93B's infirmities consist of:
-- Misaligned shift linkage (eventually fixed.)
-- Odometer quits (why can't those @#$ Swedes make an odometer cable that will last a mere 41 years without breaking?)
-- Wiper linkage comes apart (but at least the pieces all landed inside.)
-- Debris in carb jet (hardly the car's fault.)
-- Owner slams hood wrong and shorts out electric fuel pump (ditto.)
-- Owner leaves handbrake on and overheats rear brakes (tritto.)
-- Owner runs out of fuel (quadritto.)
-- Owner locks keys in car (twice.)
-- Owner's wife opens rear-hinged door at 45mph, bending it (duh!)
I'll concede the first three as mechanical failures (although note that none of them actually immobilized the car) but the rest seem to have more to do with that old all-purpose automotive malady "loose nuts holding the steering wheel"...
