I put a Facet (brand) elec. pump in my 96 a few years ago, and it has never given me problems. I mounted it in under/behind the rear seat in the access hole for the fuel tank strap wingnut (and fuel line). You have to mount it at the level of the tank or lower, and at a 45 degree angle to keep the pump from starting dry (all in the pump instructions). I had to run a switched hot lead from the dash to the rear for power (easy) and just grounded it to the body. You'll need a filter before the pump, and a fuel pressure regulator after the pump (before the carb) to limit the line pressure. I run a single choke Weber that takes 3psi - I would assume the FoMoCo carb is the same or nearly... Its a fairly easy and quick operation.
Good Luck
