Unfortunately, getting parts for a 99 is not like for a 900... Particularly a 72. That's not to say it's impossible, but sometimes it's close. The biggest question you should ask is which engine/transmission is in the car. I'm not sure what year Saab started putting its own engines in, but the early 99's have Triumph engines, which have a terrible reputation and are harder to get parts for. Also, the smaller earlier engines came paired with a transmission with a freewheel. The freewheel is a lot of fun, but it doesn't seem to stand up very well to the power of the 99 (as compared to the earlier freewheeling Saabs). Mine is pretty well shot, and I don't look forward to fixing it.
If it's got the Saab engine, that's easier to deal with, but you'll want to be wary of the water pump. It's in the block, driven by a shaft, and can cause various kinds of trouble.
All in all, I loved my '74 and I love my '69, but a 900 will probably be easier to deal with.
