2010-2011 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
Three weeks ago I purchased a leftover 2011 9-5 Turbo4 Premium, Artic White, HK upgrade and Technology Package from International Saab Sales in Falls Church, VA.. Bottom line I got a $48K car for $28K So far I've added mud flaps, rubber floor and trunk liners, sport pedals and an 18" space saver spare. Purchased a set of 18" Saab rims from a site sponsor at a super price and those will be used in the winter w/ snows.
The Saab I had before this was an '09 9-3 Sport Combi which I purchased at the GM liquidation sale. Super car without a question! Not a bad thing to say about it. So why did I buy a 9-5 leftover? Well, the price was definitely right but mainly I wanted more interior room. In that regards you cannot compare the two.
I spend at least an hour and a half to two hours commuting to and from work daily. The comfort level, though not Cadillac Sedan-de-Ville like, is very nice indeed. Still a little stiff but with time that should loosen up.
The HUD is incredible! I remember me saying once that I thought that was a waste of money but not anymore! It's a great safety item for sure! The lane change warning system alerts you with a light sounding ding-ding-ding. Nice touch and again a great safety item. The HID lights, another system I wasn't so sure I needed, are a vast improvement over the standard H7 bulbs.
The upgraded HK 5.1 Surround Sound is breathtaking. This is the best upgrade of all and considering the weakest link in my 9-3SC, the 7 speaker stereo, my ears are at peace with the world once again. I find myself pulling out an assortment of CD's from my vast collection to listen to once again.
The car handles superbly when cornering, much better than the 9-3. Less lean and I feel in better control of the car. I like the feeling of sitting up higher in the seat. It has it's share of blind spots like the 9-3 but I'll get used to that as I bond with the 9-5.
My 9-3 had a Saab Sport Exhaust installed on it. I loved the rumble sound it gave. I was surprised that the 9-5 has a dual exhaust (though hidden) and it has a nice rumble as well.
Keyless entry and auto start are another pair of items I absolutely love. Nice, nice, nice!
Okay, you're asking yourself: He hasn't mentioned any negatives? Their is one but without going to Hirsch (and I'm not sure they make it for the NG 9-5) is the steering wheel. I liked the girth of the 9-3 wheel and I miss that in the 9-5.
More later as this adventure unfolds! Thanks for reading!
