Well like many of the other people who posted said, drive one and see for yourself. My opinion of the Saab shifter is not very good. I wouldn't say it was sloppy, but it is quite "rubbery" There is a significant amount of "overshoot" available. (If you pull hard the shifter will go beyond the gear position, when you let go it snaps back) I have a 9-5 and it took a little getting used to. I hated it at first, but don't mind it so much anymore. I have never missed a shift due to it, it just feels funny.

The 9-3 torque steer was a little much for me, but drive one for yourself and make your own decision.

Although I am hard on my poor Saab, I must say the turbo lag is better than a lot of other cars I have driven. It is still there, but I find it is acceptable. (I am pretty picky about this stuff too) I do not know about the Viggen as I have never driven one. If it has a larger turbo with a higher rotational moment of inertia it will probably have more lag. Drive one for yourself and make a decision.

In the end, I would have to say that the Saab is an incredible value. It is far from perfect, but hard to beat for the price. The new BMW's I have driven do handle/shift nicer, but the payments were almost twice as much for something that was 10-20% better. Not worht it in this cheap bastards eyes. One last thing, try the 9-5 Aero. I was too cheap to go for it, but I really think it is a sweet ride.
