Problem after changing fuel pump

2000 9-3 105,000 miles
I recently had a new fuel pump installed. After a week or so, I pulled up to a red light and the car idled down to near zero rpms, and stalled. CEL came on.
This continued for the rest of the day, anytime the car was stationary. Later in the evening, the problem went away, but the car idled at 1500rpm and ran roughly. I assume this was "limp home mode".
So I reset the spring on the throttle body, which I read somewhere is the physical way to reset limp home mode, and I disconnected and reconnected the battery.
The CEL was then gone, and the car ran better with some jumps in RPM when idle, but nothing significant.
After 150 miles or so, the CEL came back on, and the car was back to stalling at idle. And again, after a day or so this problem went away and the car idles at 1500 rpm. Haven't checked yet, but i'm sure this is limp home mode again.
From what I understand unhooking the battery results in OBD unreadiness, and this changes to OBD readiness after driving for a while (150 miles or so?). It seems that when the computer returns to "ready" status, the problem with stalling at idle returns.
What could be the underlying issue here?
I'm going to install a new fuel filter today. Maybe the new "stronger" fuel pump picked up some sediment from the tank and clogged the filter?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
