Last year, the water pump on my wife's '99 9-3 was leaking. So, I ordered a Genuine Saab pump from eEuroparts. The pump was on a long back-order, so I switched it to Hepu. I figured, what the heck, it's probably the same pump, and will last just as long. Well...exactly one year later, it's blowing coolant out the weep hole again. I still had the Saab pump in a box from last year. The pulley didn't feel like the bearing was worn at all, it just started leaking (After 65K miles). Well, I took the Hepu pump off, and it feels like the bearing is shot. After one year, and only 9K miles. I checked the belt, and other pulleys, and there is no indication of belt drive issues.
So, while yes, you can replace the Hepu pump a few times for the price of a Genuine Saab pump, do you want to? It did only take me 30 minutes to have the pump removed this time, but I'd rather not go setting records. ;)
