Speaking of "lots of interesting and potentially misleading information out there ...", your statement regarding ACEA specs certainly qualifies. My previous reply was directed at your ACEA comments, not the question of Saab's oil pump pressure. I attached a link to the current (2007) ACEA specs in my previous post. I highly recommend you read it. (Of course, that's only a suggestion.) I'm quite sure you have been using 5W-30 oil with no problems. I'm not saying you should change what oil you use. I am saying that you should have a correct understanding of ACEA specs.
A3/B3 was created prior to A5/B5, so yes, it is older than A5/B5. But it addresses different criteria, not obsolete criteria. ACEA is not structured the same way API is, so you don't have the same rapid approval/disapproval sequencing that occurs in API specs.
Testing & certification requires money from the oil producer wanting to use the spec. Lots of it. Since most North American consumers aren't familiar with ACEA, & since most car makers retailing in the North American market are striving to meet CAFE demands for additional financial credits, meeting A5/B5 makes more business sense. The car companies & oil companies want the most of your money for the least of their expense. If you want the best protection, it's up to you to be as informed of a consumer as possible.
WRT A3/B3 qualification, there are a number of oils that list this spec. Just in the Mobil 1 synthetics family: 0W-40, 10W-30 High Mileage & 10W-40 High Mileage all list it. Since all three have better film strength & more robust additive packages, any of these oils would be preferrable in a Saab turbocharged engine from a protection standpoint.
