Mine turned out to be the tires. ScanWest checked the inner driver and u-joint, and they seemed slightly worn but not enough to cause such a severe shake in the tech's opinion. We agreed to put the winter wheels and tires on and the problem is gone. This is an experiment I could have done myself, but it was good to get the drivetrain looked at. Thanks for the good information.
