Hi all - thanks for your advice and happy new year.
As expected, car is totalled. Insurance estimate is $3300 to fix, but no one's opened the hood to really assess the damage (although engine seems fine, no leaks that I can tell). I've been hesitant to pop the hood because I don't think it's closing again after I do.
Ins. co will give me $2700 minus $400 salvage if I keep the car. If I knew it would really be $3300, I'd be very tempted to go for it, but I'm nervous that we'll find something expensive under the hood that needs fixing.
Taking the car to the dealer body shop guy was a pretty useless endeavor, although after much effort to engage him in conversation, he said that real repairs on a car like this are usually $1500+ above the estimate. He also cited difficulty finding Saab parts, but I think NG900 parts are not so hard to find as he thinks - although I didn't get a feeling he was interested in making much effort.
I've shown the car to one indie guy, and I'm going to try to call around to some local euro car indie shops to try to find a good body guy. Mostly at this point I just want someone's best estimate as to what it would take to get the car fixed. I'm not irrational about keeping it but I would be willing to spend some out of pocket to keep it going.
Oh, and Eric, I don't have $170k in the car, but it's got about 170k miles. Must've had dollar signs on the brain while I was typing...
