Jak had a rash of extra tall bungs and some people found success by cutting the bungs down to a reduced height. The idea was to submerge the tip of the o2 sensor further into the exhaust gas stream.

BUT, the trick your talking about is for the rear (post cat) o2 sensor. This is successful by using spark plug non-foulers to raise the o2 sensor out of the exhaust gas stream to eliminate the P0420 codes.
