Idle Surge with IAC connected
Posted by George M (more from George M) on Sun, 1 Jul 2012 22:54:03

Hello,

On my 1995 900SET I've been having a high (1500rpm) idle and noticed that the Idle Air Control valve's electrical connection was disconnected.
When I reconnected the electrical connection, the idle dropped and smoothed out, however the idle surged between 2000 and 3000 rpm after coming off throttle, whereas I disconnected the electrical connection to keep my high mileage SAAB from blowing it's engine. There's also times that the idle surges from 3000 to 4000 when first starting the engine (IAC connected electrically).

I have cleaned and used "dry lubricant" (Teflon) to the IAC's slide which moves freely with it's spring loaded return.

The IAC's solenoid's resistance reads 8.5ohms at 77F (which seems within spec of 7.7 ohms +- 1.1 ohms).

No obvious vacuum leaks around throttle body, and symptoms persist with a/c on or off..

Any harm to the ECU running with the IAC electrically disconnected as I'm running now (back to a 1500 rpm idle)?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

George M.
