I'm certain you'll think i'm crazy, but try leaving a container (500 ml)of 18% coffee cream open in trunk overnight until the problem is gone. For whatever reason, the cream will "mop up" the odour.I figured this out about ten years ago when someone put our coffee cream in the sample fridge (i'm a environmental hydrogeologist). Through the night a fuel (gasoline)sample broke. The next morning we opened the fridge, no odour, and poured the cream into our coffe. Needless to say the taste of fuel was overwhelming. In effect, the cream acts as a low cost air sponge.
While gasoline is composed of literally hundreds of individual hydrocarbons, the vaste majority are volitile short chain hydrocarbons , and about 99.9% volatile. Once it's been aired out properly, the odour will disappear (by comparison only about 30% of diesel oil is volitle, and 5% of lube). Only clean it once you are sure it's been aired out well. If not you may be just pushing it around to new, previously unaffected areas. (The cream will just minimize the nuisance odour in the cabin).
Best of Luck
