I got your mail but have been swamped today.
I can only state how Saab decides to decode their cars. What O'Reilly says you have to take up with them.
I didn't say your car is a base model, I only say that VIN N is the B204L engine and VIN P is the B204R engine.
The SE could have both engines but the base model only had the B204L engine here in US.
It's actually quite rare to see the B204R engine in the 99 9-3 compared to the B204L.
