I've had mine for about 2.5 years and it's been fairly good so far. Mine was a real early production model, so I expected problems. The most nagging complaint I have is the presence of rattles. I've heard that the later 9-3s are very solid, though. The only real problem, otherwise, would be the affect of Texas heat on the rear doors. It causes them to stick or not open at all.
But I would lease, too. Saab depreciation isn't something worth writing home about. Of course, I traded a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer, fully loaded 4x4 in Feb 2000 with 20K on it and was offered exactly the same money for my '99 9-3 with similar mileage that was 8 months older ('99 9-3s came out in May of '98), so I guesss that says something. I paid about $31, 500 for both and was offered $21K. Saabs are rare down here, though, as are 4x4 SUVs, so both probably would retain their values better in high demand markets.
